Atalanta’s impressive 11-match winning streak came to an end on Saturday as they drew 1-1 with fourth-placed Lazio in Serie A. Despite the draw, Atalanta maintains its position at the top of the league standings.
Substitute Marco Brescianini scored a late equalizer just four minutes after coming on, finishing a counterattack initiated by Nicolo Zaniolo and Ademola Lookman. Earlier in the match, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru had given Lazio the lead in the first half, firing past Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi after receiving a well-placed ball over the top.
Atalanta now sits one point ahead of defending champions Inter Milan, who secured a 3-0 victory over Cagliari earlier in the day and have a match in hand. The two teams will meet again on Thursday in the semifinals of the Italian Super Cup in Saudi Arabia.
Atalanta was missing their leading scorer Mateo Retegui, who is sidelined with a left leg injury sustained in last weekend’s match against Empoli.
Inter Milan continues to show strong form, having won their last four matches across all competitions, scoring 13 goals and conceding none since a 1-0 loss to Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League earlier this month. Nicolò Barella played a crucial role in Inter’s latest win, providing two assists. Alessandro Bastoni opened the scoring with a looping header from Barella’s cross, followed by Lautaro Martinez, who netted his first Serie A goal in nearly two months with a volley from another Barella assist. Hakan Calhanoglu capped off the performance with a penalty conversion.
In other matches, Patrick Vieira’s Genoa triumphed over Empoli with a 2-1 win, thanks to goals from Milan Badelj and Caleb Ekuban. Meanwhile, Parma defeated last-placed Monza 2-1, with Lautaro Rodrigo Valenti scoring a dramatic header in stoppage time to spoil the debut of new Monza coach Salvatore Bocchetti.
