Lamar Jackson made history on Wednesday night, surpassing Michael Vick to become the all-time leading rusher among quarterbacks in NFL history during the Baltimore Ravens’ 31-2 victory over the Houston Texans.
Jackson achieved the milestone with a 6-yard run in the third quarter, finishing the game with 87 rushing yards, bringing his career total to 6,110 yards. Vick, who held the previous record with 6,109 yards during his 13-year career, was one of Jackson’s inspirations. “Michael Vick, one of my favorite players,” Jackson said. “That’s just dope.”
In addition to his record-setting performance, Jackson contributed significantly to the Ravens’ win by throwing two touchdown passes and executing a 48-yard scoring run. He played for just over three quarters before giving way to backup Josh Johnson with approximately 10 minutes remaining in the game.“Just having fun,” Jackson remarked after the game. “The NFL is not easy. I don’t care what nobody says. It looks easy, but it’s not.”
Ravens head coach John Harbaugh praised Jackson’s outstanding season, highlighting his career-high 39 touchdown passes, a franchise record, along with only four interceptions and four rushing touchdowns. “Sometimes I just shake my head and say: ‘That was a really great play,’” Harbaugh said. “I see a lot of great plays from Lamar Jackson. I told him I was proud of him. I’m not just proud of him because he makes great plays. I’m proud of him for all the things that go into making the great plays, but also for all the things that he’s overcome along the way.”
