Inter Milan secured a 2-0 victory over Como on Monday, solidifying their third place in Serie A and narrowing the gap on league leaders Atalanta and Napoli.Carlos Augusto opened the scoring with a header from a corner kick in the 48th minute, while Marcus Thuram sealed the win with a powerful strike into the roof of the net during stoppage time. This match marked the first meeting between the two teams in the top division since 2003. Despite having lost only one league game all season, Inter struggled to dominate against 15th-placed Como. However, the team managed to secure the win comfortably, earning three crucial points that bring them within three points of Atalanta and just one behind Napoli. Inter also holds a game in hand over both rivals.
Fiorentina Falls Short Against Udinese
Meanwhile, Fiorentina missed an opportunity to climb to fourth place, suffering a 2-1 defeat at home against Udinese. The Florence club had previously enjoyed a record eight consecutive Serie A victories before losing to Bologna 1-0 on December 15. Fiorentina seemed to be regaining form when Moises Kean converted a penalty just eight minutes into the match, becoming the first Fiorentina player to reach double figures in league goals since Federico Chiesa in the 2019-20 season.
However, Udinese responded strongly in the second half, with Lorenzo Lucca equalizing after just four minutes, capitalizing on defensive errors. Florian Thauvin then curled in the winning goal from the edge of the box eight minutes later. The result leaves Udinese in ninth place, while Fiorentina remains in fifth.
The match held special significance for Edoardo Bove, the Fiorentina player who experienced a heart issue that led to the suspension of the game against Inter Milan on December 1. After receiving a defibrillator implant, Bove sat on the Fiorentina bench for the first time since his collapse. Although he is not yet cleared to play, his presence alongside coach Raffaele Palladino was seen as a positive step towards normalcy for the 22-year-old midfielder.
