Manchester City center back John Stones suffered another injury setback during the team’s 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa in the Premier League on Saturday.
Stones, who was making his first start in a month, was substituted at halftime due to a recurring foot issue. City manager Pep Guardiola confirmed that the injury had re-emerged.
Guardiola has pointed to injuries as a significant factor in the team’s recent struggles, which have seen the four-time defending champions lose nine of their last 12 matches across all competitions.
Adding to the team’s woes, it was announced on Friday that Ruben Dias will be sidelined for up to four weeks with a muscle injury. “We have just one central defender fit, and that is difficult,” Guardiola remarked after the match.
