Ivan Juric has been appointed as the new manager of Southampton, taking on the critical task of securing the club’s position in the Premier League. His hiring comes after the dismissal of Russell Martin, who was let go last week as the team languished at the bottom of the table.
In a statement, Southampton expressed its commitment to fighting for survival, stating, “We remain focused on fighting for survival and believe this appointment will provide us with the grit and determination needed to improve results on the pitch.”
Juric, 49, has signed an 18-month contract with the club. His most recent managerial role was a brief two-month stint at Italian club Roma.
Southampton’s current form is concerning, having lost six of their last seven matches and sitting nine points adrift of safety. Despite the challenges ahead, Juric remains optimistic about the team’s potential. “It’s a really big challenge, but I’m very optimistic because I saw a team that can do better,” he said. “I want an aggressive team, and I think the fans of Southampton will like that.”
