Nick Kyrgios has expressed mixed feelings about Wimbledon, despite enjoying the grass courts at The All England Club. The Australian tennis star has often shared his appreciation for grass surfaces, believing they offer him the best chance for success. In 2022, he made a significant run at The Championships, reaching his first Grand Slam singles final before falling to Novak Djokovic in a closely contested four-set match.
After missing the 2023 and 2024 tournaments due to surgery, Kyrgios is set to return to Wimbledon in 2025. Ahead of his comeback, he revealed his dissatisfaction with the event’s atmosphere, stating that he finds it “weird” compared to the US Open, which he prefers.
“I’m sorry, but as an event, Wimbledon is not even that good in my opinion,” Kyrgios said during an appearance on the Nothing Major podcast. “I don’t really like the setup. I don’t like the cafe and stuff. The US Open is my favorite… Wimbledon is insane, but I just feel weird there. I prefer the US Open; it’s so simple: locker room, go upstairs, food. Wimbledon? Not a fan of it.”
With his return confirmed, the 29-year-old has set his sights on achieving a Grand Slam victory. Given that the Australian Open occurs early in his comeback and his aversion to the French Open—where he hasn’t competed since 2017—Kyrgios will likely arrive at Wimbledon without a Major title to his name.
However, given his reputation and past performances at The Championships, Kyrgios is expected to enter the tournament with high aspirations.
