Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown may be sidelined for the entire 2025 season as he recovers from a right knee injury sustained during a loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, head coach Mike McCarthy announced on Tuesday.
McCarthy indicated that Overshown faces a “long road of rehab,” following the injury, which involved the tearing of multiple ligaments when a Bengals lineman collided with his leg during the Cowboys’ 27-20 defeat on Monday night. When asked about the likelihood of Overshown missing the entire 2025 season, McCarthy responded, “I think that’s fair. You have the surgery, and the rehab is a long process. I think that’s very realistic.”
This latest setback follows a challenging rookie year for Overshown, who was unable to play in 2023 after tearing the ACL in his left knee during a preseason game. The injury occurred just after he had made a significant impact in his first game back, scoring a 23-yard interception return for a touchdown in a Thanksgiving victory over the New York Giants.
“DeMarvion is getting ready to have a big surgery in front of him,” McCarthy said, referring to the procedure scheduled for this week. “His physical and football talent speaks for itself. He’s such a bright light with a great, infectious personality — a tough young man. He is definitely going to be missed.”
Overshown, a third-round draft pick from Texas, had been performing well, ranking second on the team in sacks with five, just behind star pass rusher Micah Parsons, when he was injured.
The timing of Overshown’s injury in December suggests that his rehabilitation could extend beyond training camp and into the regular season next year, shortly after he turns 25. Parsons expressed his emotional support for Overshown after the game against Cincinnati, stating, “I cried. It’s like my little bro. He doesn’t deserve that. Just to understand what he’s going to go through and to be there for him physically and mentally is challenging because of the year he was having. I really just don’t think that’s fair.”
As the Cowboys (5-8) prepare to face the Carolina Panthers (3-10) on Sunday, they are also anticipating the return of defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, who has been out since Week 4 due to a foot injury.
