Holger Rune Reveals His Diet and Drinks

Holger Rune’s recent season has been disappointing, highlighting a concerning trend in his performance. The young Danish tennis star has struggled to improve over the past year, with opponents effectively exploiting his weaknesses, making him more vulnerable than he was in 2022. After achieving significant success in late 2022 and early 2023, including a stunning victory over Novak Djokovic at the Rolex Paris Masters, expectations were high. However, that triumph may have come too soon for Rune, who has since found it difficult to manage the pressure.

In the past twelve months, Rune has changed coaches multiple times, which has contributed to a sense of uncertainty about his direction. His results have not met expectations, leading fans to question his current status in the sport.

Despite these challenges, Rune is committed to regaining his confidence and appears to have found some stability within his team. The upcoming months will be crucial in determining his path forward.

Goals for the Future

The 2025 season is pivotal for Rune’s career, as he aims to reclaim his position among the elite players in tennis. Just over a year ago, he was considered on par with rising stars Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. However, his recent performance has led to a significant downgrade in his status. Rune recognizes the need for substantial improvement to compete with his Italian and Spanish counterparts.

Sinner has been nearly unstoppable in 2024, winning two Grand Slam titles, three Masters 1000 events, and the ATP Finals in Turin. With an impressive record of 73 wins and only six losses this season, he has distanced himself from other players in the ATP rankings. Meanwhile, Alcaraz, though less consistent, made history by becoming the youngest player to win both Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same year.

In a recent interview with Tennis365, Rune acknowledged the achievements of his peers, stating, “I think Sinner has been a very complete player this year. When Alcaraz is playing his best tennis, he also seems complete, but I can see areas where they can improve. It’s unbelievable considering Sinner has won almost everything this year. The great thing about tennis is that everyone always has a chance to get better. Alcaraz has been great for tennis; he’s a fantastic player showing his skills on the court. Hopefully, I will be there with them soon.”

Doping Controls and Personal Responsibility

The 2024 season has also been marred by two high-profile doping cases involving Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek, both of whom tested positive but successfully proved their innocence. These incidents have sparked significant debate among fans and players alike.

In the same interview, Rune discussed the rigorous doping controls he has faced this year, stating, “We had a lot of doping control this year. Before the Olympics, I had around 20 tests, which is a lot. They are doing everything to keep the sport clean, which is very important. I take great care with the supplements I use, as every player does, but it can be unfortunate or it can be something else.”

Rune emphasized his commitment to personal responsibility regarding his health: “I always monitor what I eat and drink. If I leave a drink anywhere, I never pick it up again. You have to protect yourself to ensure I can do what I love, which is play tennis every day. I do blood tests about once a year to assess what my body needs, but that’s quite personal. It’s things like vitamin C when you get sick and need more of that.”

Despite his youth, Rune has faced several physical issues and must focus on his fitness to avoid injuries that have plagued him. As he heads into 2025, he will need to demonstrate more consistent performances and mental maturity, having lost too many matches due to lapses in character. The upcoming Australian Open will serve as his first significant test to prove that he has matured and is ready to compete at the highest level.
