Mohamed Salah acknowledged that a resolution to his contract situation is still “far away” following his impressive performance in Liverpool’s 5-0 victory over West Ham. The Egyptian forward, whose contract expires at the end of the season, scored one goal and provided two assists, helping the Reds extend their lead at the top of the Premier League to eight points.
When asked by Sky Sports about the possibility of sharing positive news regarding his contract soon, Salah replied, “No, we are far away from that. I don’t want to put something in the media and have people start speculating, but nothing has really changed. Right now, I’m focused on the team, and hopefully, we can win the Premier League.”
Salah has been in sensational form this season, netting 17 goals and contributing 13 assists in 18 league appearances. He emphasized that his primary goal is to help Liverpool secure the league title: “The only thing on my mind is I want Liverpool to win the league, and I just want to be part of that. I will do my best for the team to win a trophy.”
Despite Liverpool’s strong position, Salah acknowledged the competition from other teams: “We are in the right direction, but there are a few other teams that are trying to catch up with us. We need to stay focused, humble, and work hard.”
Liverpool manager Arne Slot also addressed Salah’s contract situation, noting that while internal dynamics may not change in January, external discussions are likely to intensify. He expressed confidence in Salah, as well as in Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk, who are also out of contract next summer. Slot stated, “I don’t think it’s negative around him at all. He’s playing really well and celebrating his goals shows his commitment.”
Regarding potential transfers in January, Slot indicated that he is satisfied with the current squad: “There’s nothing in the media yet about who we’re going to bring in? No? And also not in my mind. I’m very happy with the squad we have.”
Slot also provided an update on Joe Gomez, who is expected to be sidelined for an extended period due to a hamstring injury. “If a player says he wants to stop after a sprint, we all know it’s a hamstring, and it’s going to take a while for him to return,” he said.
West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui reflected on his team’s lackluster performance against the league leaders, stating, “We did not compete as we expected or as Liverpool demands. Today has been a tough day for us.” Adding to West Ham’s woes, captain Jarrod Bowen left the pitch with an ankle injury, further complicating their situation.
