Grizzlies Delay Zach Edey’s Return from Injury

The Memphis Grizzlies have announced that rookie center Zach Edey will be sidelined for an additional couple of weeks as he continues to recover from a left ankle injury sustained on November 17 during a game against Denver.

Edey, a two-time collegiate player of the year from Purdue, has missed the last eight games, including Thursday night’s matchup against the Sacramento Kings. Earlier this week, there were signs that Edey was close to returning, as he practiced with the Memphis Hustle, the Grizzlies’ G League affiliate.

“He was with the Hustle on Wednesday, testing it out, but we just weren’t comfortable with where he’s at,” said Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins. “So, we’re going to gradually progress him over the next couple of weeks.”

Selected ninth overall in last summer’s NBA draft, Edey has played in 14 games this season, averaging 11.1 points and 6.9 rebounds, with nine of those games as a starter.
