The NFL has upheld Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair’s three-game suspension, which stems from a hit on Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence during last Sunday’s game. The hit not only resulted in a concussion for Lawrence but also placed him on injured reserve.
In response to the suspension, Al-Shaair took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to address fans, stating, “IF YOU WANT ME TO BE YOUR VILLAIN, ILL BE YOUR VILLAIN! SEE YOU SOON…” He also shared the same message on Instagram. Earlier in the week, Al-Shaair had expressed regret for the incident, apologizing to Lawrence and explaining, “I genuinely didn’t see him sliding until it was too late. … To Trevor, I genuinely apologize to you for what ended up happening.”
This suspension follows a history of controversial plays by Al-Shaair, prompting a strong response from the NFL. After a failed appeal on Wednesday, the 27-year-old linebacker will miss three crucial AFC games against the Miami Dolphins, Kansas City Chiefs, and Baltimore Ravens.
