In his first media appearance since the Chicago Bears fired head coach Matt Eberflus last Friday, quarterback Caleb Williams offered a candid perspective on the challenging realities of being an NFL head coach.
“It’s interesting,” Williams said when asked about the Bears’ decision to part ways with Eberflus following their 4-8 start to the season. “I didn’t—I don’t get any say or choice over that. I have to, you know, roll with the punches. It’s tough… He’s the reason why I’m here. He drafted me. So going through that and that process is interesting for me.”
Williams emphasized the personal impact of the firing, noting, “That’s a man that has a family. A man that ended up getting fired. There’s a human part of it, a human part to it—and there’s a business part to it that you have to understand. Like I said, you have to roll with the punches from there.”
The Bears will now move forward with Thomas Brown as the interim head coach while they begin their search for a new leader, reportedly seeking a “leader of men” for the head coaching position in 2025.
Chicago is set to face the San Francisco 49ers this Sunday at 4:25 p.m. EST, as they aim to end a six-game losing streak.
