Greenwood converted the penalty in the 89th minute, placing the ball into the bottom left corner for his ninth league goal of the season. This achievement ties him with Lille’s Jonathan David and leaves him just one goal behind Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola in the scoring race.

With this win, Marseille climbed above Monaco on goal difference, although both teams remain seven points adrift of league leaders PSG. The defeat highlighted the vulnerabilities in coach Adi Hütter’s young and talented Monaco squad, which has struggled with consistency.

Monaco had suffered a 3-2 defeat to Benfica in the Champions League just days earlier, having led that match 2-1 before conceding twice in the final minutes. After starting the season unbeaten in their first 11 matches across all competitions, Hütter’s side has now lost four of their last seven, including disappointing defeats to struggling Angers and Nice.

In Sunday’s match at Stade Velodrome, Monaco took the lead in the 41st minute when midfielder Aleksandr Golovin scored with a deflected shot following a setup by Denis Zakaria. However, Marseille equalized in the 53rd minute through Brazilian winger Luis Henrique, who headed in a cross from Neal Maupay.

In another match earlier on Sunday, rock-bottom Montpellier earned a dramatic 2-2 draw against Lille, with Arnaud Nordin scoring the equalizer in the fifth minute of stoppage time. The match was marred by controversy, as a confrontation led to red cards for Montpellier’s Tanguy Coulibaly and Lille’s Mitchel Bakker.

Lille’s Jonathan David converted two penalties during the match, maintaining his strong form and bringing his tally to nine league goals this season. His second penalty, awarded after a lengthy video review, came in the 54th minute.

In other matches, veteran striker Alexandre Lacazette netted a hat trick as Lyon defeated Nice 4-1, moving the team into fifth place. Lacazette’s goals included a penalty, and he now has a total of 190 goals for Lyon across two spells at the club.

Midtable Toulouse secured a 2-0 home victory against Auxerre, thanks to goals from Joshua King and Vincent Sierro, while Himad Abdelli’s strike helped Angers to a 1-0 win at Le Havre, lifting them out of the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, PSG managed only a 1-1 draw against struggling Nantes, following their recent defeat to Bayern Munich.
