Seko Fofana Joins Rennes After Saudi Arabia Spell

Ivory Coast midfielder Seko Fofana has concluded his short tenure in Saudi Arabia, signing a long-term contract with French club Rennes on Wednesday. The 29-year-old Fofana previously contributed to Lens’s impressive second-place finish in Ligue 1 during the 2022-23 season, and Rennes is optimistic that he can replicate that success for the Brittany side. Fofana has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal, although financial details were not disclosed. Currently, Rennes sits in 12th place in the league standings.

“There are some talented players at Rennes, and I don’t think the club is where it should be,” Fofana remarked in the team’s announcement. “We’re going to have the opportunity to play a series of matches and demonstrate that the start of the season was below the club’s potential. I hope we can turn things around very quickly.”

During his time at Lens, Fofana scored 21 goals and provided 12 assists across 112 appearances. In July 2023, he joined Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League, where he played alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, before being loaned to Al-Ettifaq six months later.
