In a striking performance during the Champions League match against his parent club Stuttgart, on-loan forward Silas scored in Red Star Belgrade’s commanding 5-1 victory on Wednesday.
Silas, who spent five years at Stuttgart before joining the Serbian champions on loan for the current season, kept his celebration subdued after finding the net. The loan agreement was finalized after the Champions League draw, setting the stage for the two teams to meet in the fifth of eight group stage matches.
Red Star fell behind early, conceding a goal in the 12th minute. However, the Congo international quickly equalized, shooting from the edge of the penalty area. In a gesture of respect, Silas raised both hands in apology to the fans of his former club.
This match marked a significant turnaround for Red Star, who had suffered four consecutive losses in the Champions League.
Silas, now 26, made headlines in 2021 when it was revealed that he had been playing under a false family name and was actually a year older than officially registered. His previous agent was held responsible for the visa complications that arose when Silas moved to Europe as a teenager.
