Vladislav Goldin and Nimari Burnett each scored 17 points, while Tre Donaldson and Danny Wolf recorded double-doubles to propel Michigan to a commanding 112-64 victory over Western Kentucky on Sunday night, ending the Hilltoppers’ six-game winning streak.
Goldin showcased an efficient performance, hitting 7 of 8 shots, including two 3-pointers, and adding 1 of 2 free throws for the Wolverines (10-3), whose three losses this season have come by a combined five points. Burnett was particularly effective from beyond the arc, shooting 5-for-7 from 3-point range. Donaldson achieved his first career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Wolf contributed 12 points and 10 boards, marking his sixth double-double of the season.
Off the bench, Sam Walters added 13 points for Michigan, and Roddy Gayle Jr. chipped in with 11 points and four assists.For Western Kentucky (9-4), Don McHenry led the team with 18 points, including three 3-pointers. Julius Thedford scored 11 points on 3-for-16 shooting, while Enoch Kalambay added 10 points.
Michigan dominated the first half, taking a 59-31 lead into the break, thanks in part to Gayle and Goldin, who both contributed 11 points. The Wolverines shot an impressive 57.6% from the field and made 11 of 21 attempts from 3-point range, marking their highest-scoring half of the season. The team surpassed the century mark with a 3-pointer from Wolf with 6:05 remaining, extending their lead to 102-52.
This matchup was the first between the two programs in 17 years, and Michigan has now won four of their six all-time meetings against the Hilltoppers.Looking ahead, Michigan will face Southern California in a Big Ten Conference matchup on Saturday, while Western Kentucky will travel to Liberty for their Conference USA opener on Thursday.
