Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen was forced to exit Tuesday’s game against the San Antonio Spurs in the closing moments of the fourth quarter due to a collision with Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama. Markkanen was assisted to the locker room, and the team later diagnosed him with a left knee contusion. Jazz head coach Will Hardy confirmed the injury during his postgame press conference, stating, “As of now, it’s a contusion.”
Prior to his departure, the 27-year-old Markkanen contributed 14 points and eight rebounds in just over 33 minutes of play. This season, he has been averaging 19.9 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.2 assists, shooting 47.6% from the field and 44.6% from three-point range.
The status of Markkanen for Wednesday’s game against the Denver Nuggets remains uncertain.
