Freshman Ian Jackson delivered a standout performance with a season-high 26 points, leading North Carolina to a 97-81 victory over Campbell on Sunday night. This game marked the Tar Heels’ last nonconference contest of the season.
RJ Davis contributed significantly with 23 points, including five three-pointers, while Elliot Cadeau recorded a double-double with 12 points and a career-high 12 assists. Drake Powell also added 12 points, and Jalen Washington chipped in with 10 for North Carolina, which improved to 8-5 on the season.
Cadeau ignited a pivotal 15-3 run with a jumper, and Davis followed with a three-pointer that gave UNC a lead they would not relinquish with 16:09 remaining in the first half. Cadeau capped the run with a layup, extending the lead to 22-12 with 12:41 left until halftime.
Campbell’s Colby Duggan responded with consecutive three-pointers, narrowing the gap to 22-18 less than a minute later. Nolan Dorsey’s tip-in further reduced the deficit to four points with 7:51 remaining in the half. However, North Carolina closed the half strong, scoring 12 of the final 17 points to take a 40-29 lead into the locker room. The Fighting Camels would not come closer than nine points for the remainder of the game.
Duggan opened the second half with a jumper, but Washington’s dunk at 18:53 kept the Tar Heels ahead by double digits for the rest of the match. Duggan led Campbell (5-8) with a career-high 32 points on 11-of-18 shooting, including 5-of-9 from beyond the arc. The rest of the Camels combined for 17-of-45 shooting (37.8%).
In addition to Duggan, Jasin Sinani and Cam Gregory contributed 15 and 14 points, respectively, for Campbell.Notably, North Carolina played without Seth Trimble, who was sidelined due to an upper-body injury. Trimble has been averaging 14.8 points per game this season.
