Pep Guardiola has reportedly agreed to a contract extension that will keep him at Manchester City for at least another season, according to British media sources on Tuesday.
The manager’s current contract was set to expire at the end of this season. Since joining the club in 2016, Guardiola has presided over an era of remarkable success, leading City to six Premier League titles in seven years and securing the Champions League trophy.
While Manchester City has not officially commented on the reports, it is believed that the new contract will extend Guardiola’s tenure into a 10th season, potentially including an option for an additional year.
Under Guardiola’s leadership, City made history by becoming the first team to win four consecutive English league titles. In 2023, he guided the team to a historic treble, clinching the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup, thereby matching Manchester United’s feat from 1999.
Guardiola’s decision to extend his stay comes amid ongoing scrutiny regarding alleged financial breaches by the club. Manchester City faces over 100 charges related to financial misconduct spanning nine years as it sought to establish itself as a leading force in English football.
The club has denied these allegations, and Guardiola expressed his eagerness to clear the club’s name during a closed-door hearing scheduled for September. A verdict on the charges is not expected until next year.
