In a commanding performance on Thursday night, the Missouri Tigers defeated Mississippi Valley State 111-39, matching the largest margin of victory in the program’s history at 72 points.
This victory marks Missouri’s largest win since a 117-45 rout of Chicago State in 1995, and it also ties the 106-34 win over MacMurray in 1976 for the record.
Marques Warrick led the Tigers with 16 points, scoring 11 in the first half as Missouri built a substantial lead. Caleb Grill and Tamar Bates contributed 15 points each, while Mark Mitchell added 13 points. Marcus Allen and Annor Boateng chipped in with 10 points apiece. The Tigers showcased their shooting prowess, hitting 15 of 31 three-point attempts and finishing the game with an overall shooting percentage of 57%. Missouri capitalized on 23 turnovers by the Delta Devils, converting them into a staggering 45-2 scoring advantage.
Arthur Tate was the standout for Mississippi Valley State, leading his team with 10 points.
After leading by 32 at halftime, Missouri opened the second half with a 15-0 run, extending their lead to 66-19. The Tigers surpassed the 100-point mark with just under five minutes remaining, highlighted by a 17-0 scoring run. Following an early basket by MVSU, Missouri responded with a 12-point streak. Another 12-0 run, featuring three-pointers from Grill, Jacob Crews, and Bates, pushed the lead to 30 points with 6:30 left in the first half, which concluded with Missouri ahead 51-19.
Thursday’s matchup was the third game in a 10-game homestand for the Tigers. Meanwhile, this game marked the beginning of a challenging six-game road trip for the Delta Devils, who will face Texas, Kansas State, BYU, Utah, and UC Santa Barbara before returning home.
