After two intense five-set matches last week, the Pacific volleyball team is back on the road, set to face Washington State on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Bohler Gym, followed by a match against Gonzaga on Saturday at noon at the Charlotte Y. Martin Centre.
Pacific (14-9, 4-7 WCC) will first take on Washington State (12-8, 7-4 WCC), hoping to reverse a previous four-set loss from earlier in the season. In that match, Pacific’s Alexa Edwards led all players with 20 kills, and teammate Jenna Heller recorded a career-high four aces. The Tigers claimed the opening set 25-20, but the Cougars came back to win the next three by a combined 12 points. This marked Pacific’s first-ever loss to Washington State.
Next, Pacific will face Gonzaga (1-20, 0-11 WCC), aiming to repeat its dominant performance from their last meeting, where the Tigers swept all three sets. In that match, Gonzaga didn’t score more than 16 points in any set, and Pacific recorded an impressive .347 hitting percentage. Edwards led the offense with 18 kills, just one less than Gonzaga’s total kills for the match.
In the West Coast Conference standings, Pacific trails Washington State by three games and WCC leader LMU by six, with just seven games left in the season. Of the six teams currently ahead of Pacific, the Tigers are scheduled to play four of them — Pepperdine, LMU, Oregon State, and Washington State — with three of those matches set to take place at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
Both of this weekend’s matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
