The Los Angeles Lakers may have suffered their first defeat of the season against the Phoenix Suns on Monday night, but they finally have a great head coach in JJ Redick, according to ESPN’s NBA senior insider Shams Charania. Charania reported that the organization is thrilled with Redick and his obsession with bringing the team back to the NBA’s mountaintop.
One of the things that Redick has brought to the table is accountability. He’s not afraid to call out the team’s most iconic player in front of everyone for not shooting the ball and causing a 24-second shot clock violation. This kind of leadership is precisely what the Lakers needed after going through a couple of seasons under previous head coach Darvin Ham, who many believed was not the right man for the high-profile job.
Charania noted that Redick, a former Duke Blue Devil who played 15 seasons in the Association, has brought structure, detail, and accountability to the Lakers, which were missing over the last couple of years. “Everything has been going swimmingly with JJ Redick as the head coach of the Lakers. The things that the Lakers felt they were missing seem to be in place now,” Charania said.
After the loss against the Phoenix Suns, Redick took responsibility for the defeat and took it hard in the locker room. This kind of ownership and accountability is what the Lakers need to get back to their winning ways. With Redick at the helm, the Lakers are poised to make a strong push towards the NBA championship this season.
