Drury Women’s Basketball Picked to Finish Second in GLVC Preseason Poll

The Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) has announced its women’s basketball preseason coaches poll, and the Drury Lady Panthers are projected to finish second. Drury garnered 183 total points and secured five first-place votes. Defending conference champion Lewis topped the poll with 190 points and nine first-place votes. McKendree came in third with 158 points and one first-place vote.

Drury returns eight letterwinners from last season, including First Team All-GLVC selection Caitlynn Daniels. Daniels started all 32 games, averaging 15 points and nearly five and a half assists per game. Senior Anna Hitt, who was named to the Third Team All-GLVC last season, returns after averaging 9.2 points per game. The Lady Panthers have also added key transfers, including Audra Pasakarnis from Mineral Area CC and Josie Storey from Tennessee-Martin.

Kaci Bailey begins her second season as head coach of the Lady Panthers. Last season, the team finished with a record of 25-7 and an 18-4 GLVC mark. Their season ended with a loss to Lewis in the conference tournament championship and a first-round exit in the NCAA-II Midwest Regional against Ashland.

Drury will open its season on November 10 against Ferris State at the O’Reilly Family Event Center. Ferris State reached the national semifinals last season.

Drury Men’s Basketball Team Picked Eighth in GLVC

The Drury men’s basketball team has been selected to finish eighth in the GLVC preseason poll, receiving 107 points. Truman State is projected to win the league, having earned six first-place votes. Illinois Springfield is expected to finish just ahead of last year’s champion, William Jewell. Five teams received at least one first-place vote.

The Panthers return ten players from last season. Logan Applegate was the team’s leading scorer last year, averaging 13.7 points per game, and was named Second Team All-GLVC. Brock Wakefield, a senior, returns after earning his second career All-Defensive nod. Juok Riak made the All-Freshman team last season, averaging 13.1 points in 21.2 minutes per game.

Chris Foster returns for his fourth season as head coach. Last year, his team recorded a 15-13 overall record, with an 8-12 mark in GLVC play.

The Panthers will kick off their season on November 8, facing Thomas More on the road in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

Joe Loughnane Named GLVC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

Drury junior Joe Loughnane has been named the GLVC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance during the week of October 21-27.

Loughnane scored one goal and provided two assists, contributing four points over two games as the Panthers went 2-0 on the road. The junior from Shrewsbury, England, netted the game-winning goal in Drury’s 3-2 victory over Rockhurst on Friday, where he also assisted on the first goal. On Sunday, he recorded an assist in Drury’s 1-0 win at William Jewell.
