Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner extended his New Year greetings to fans through a video posted on his Instagram stories, featuring his final serve of 2024, reminiscent of last year’s post. Currently training in Monte Carlo, Sinner is gearing up to defend his title at the upcoming Australian Open.
Sinner enjoyed a remarkable 2024 season, achieving 73 victories out of 79 matches. His accolades include two Grand Slam titles—the Australian Open and the US Open—along with three Masters 1000 titles and a total of eight ATP titles, including the ATP Finals and his second consecutive Davis Cup victory. His outstanding performance culminated in him finishing the year as the world number one.
However, Sinner’s year was not without challenges, as he navigated the aftermath of a positive test for Clostebol in March during the Indian Wells tournament, which impacted his performance at times. The situation is expected to reach a resolution between February and March, pending a ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding an appeal from the World Anti-Doping Agency, which is seeking a disqualification for negligence.
As he awaits the CAS decision, Sinner has been fine-tuning his preparations for the Australian Open. After two weeks of training in Dubai and a brief Christmas visit to Sesto Pusteria with family, he is now in Monte Carlo. He is scheduled to fly to Australia on January 2, without participating in any preparatory tournaments, unlike last year when he played two matches at the Kooyong Classic.
This year, Sinner will engage in two exhibition matches during the Opening Week of the Australian Open to acclimate to the Melbourne Park courts. He is set to face Alexei Popyrin on January 7 and will challenge Stefanos Tsitsipas on January 10, before embarking on his Australian Open campaign from January 12 to 26.
