Andy Roddick has expressed strong support for Karolina Muchova, stating that the Czech player is among the best in tennis when healthy and could potentially capture her first Grand Slam title this season. Muchova, currently ranked No. 22 in the world, reached the Australian Open semifinals in 2021 but suffered a significant back injury that delayed her recovery.
In mid-2023, Muchova began to regain her form, reaching the final of the French Open, where she was just two games away from defeating Iga Swiatek, and later making it to the semifinals of the US Open. However, she faced another setback with a serious wrist injury that sidelined her for ten months before her return to competition in June.
Despite the lengthy absence, the 27-year-old showcased her resilience by reaching the US Open semifinals again. Roddick praised her talent, stating, “The only thing separating her from the top five is health, and she can bother everyone. She would be on my top five list of people who could win a Slam next year.”
Muchova’s comeback journey has been impressive; she finished as the runner-up in Palermo shortly after returning, reached the semifinals at the US Open, and narrowly lost to Coco Gauff in the final of a WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing. Most recently, she advanced to the semifinals at the WTA 500 tournament in Ningbo.
Kicking off her 2025 season, Muchova secured a convincing 6-2, 6-2 victory over Malene Helgo at the United Cup. She is set to face Iga Swiatek on Wednesday in a highly anticipated rematch of the 2023 French Open final. Given her recent performances, Muchova is poised to be a formidable contender at the upcoming Australian Open.
