Tim Kleindienst continued his impressive form for Borussia Mönchengladbach, scoring in a 2-0 victory against St. Pauli in the Bundesliga on Sunday.
The home side took an early lead in the 13th minute when Alassane Plea converted a header from Marvin Friedrich, directing it past St. Pauli goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj following a corner kick.
Kleindienst extended the advantage shortly before halftime with a deft chip over Vasilj. Although his initial celebration was halted by an offside flag, a VAR review confirmed he was onside, marking his seventh goal of the season.
St. Pauli struggled to create significant chances, only threatening Gladbach’s goal late in the match. The victory marked Gladbach’s fourth consecutive win at home, propelling Gerardo Seoane’s squad to sixth place in the league, now 12 points behind leaders Bayern Munich after 11 rounds.
Kleindienst, 29, has been a pivotal player for Gladbach since his summer transfer from Heidenheim. His performances have garnered attention from Germany’s national team coach, Julian Nagelsmann. Kleindienst made his debut for the national team last month in a 2-1 victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina and has since earned three additional caps, scoring twice in a rematch against Bosnia last week.
In other Bundesliga action, Mainz secured a 3-0 away victory against promoted side Holstein Kiel, leaving Kiel in second-to-last place, while St. Pauli sits just three points above them in 16th.
