Seekonk High School baseball coach Joe DeMelo has been named the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) Baseball Coach of the Year for the 2023-24 season. This honor was announced by Superintendent Rebecca Kidwell, Principal William Whalen, and Athletic Director John Moran.
DeMelo has been leading the varsity baseball team since 2011. Under his guidance, the Seekonk Warriors have excelled, especially in the last three seasons. The team has made consecutive appearances in the Division 4 state championship and won state titles in 2023 and 2024. Over the past two years, the Warriors have lost only seven games.
In the spring season, the team achieved an impressive 23-3 overall record, finishing 13-2 in the South Coast Conference. They claimed the Division 4 state championship in June, defeating Pittsfield 8-0.
“I am grateful to receive this recognition from the MIAA,” DeMelo said. “Our team has been incredible, and the hard work of these young men has truly paid off.”
DeMelo will receive the award at the MIAA Awards Banquet in Milford on December 11. Athletic Director John Moran expressed appreciation for DeMelo’s commitment to the program.
“We are extremely grateful for all that Coach DeMelo has done for Seekonk High School’s baseball program, and we are excited to celebrate this wonderful accomplishment with him,” Moran said.
