Agustín Creevy is continuing his rugby journey. Just weeks after retiring from the Argentine national team, Los Pumas, the former captain has signed with Benetton to play in the United Rugby Championship (URC). Benetton is one of Italy’s top teams.
Creevy’s career spans several elite rugby competitions. He has previously played in the Top 14 in France, the English Premiership, and Super Rugby. His club history includes stints with Biarritz, Clermont, Montpellier, Worcester Warriors, London Irish, Sale Sharks, and Los Jaguares.
At Benetton, Creevy will join a strong group of Argentine players. He will team up with fellow Pumas Thomas Gallo, Nahuel Tetaz Chaparro, Lautaro Bazán Vélez, Tomás Albornoz, and Ignacio Mendy. The club also features uncapped player Bautista Bernasconi and capped Argentine players Juan Ignacio Brex and Iván Nemer.
Bernasconi has been part of Los Pumas’ squad in 2024 but has yet to play in a match. Mendy recently had an impressive performance against Uruguay, while Gallo is the starting loose head prop. Albornoz has also become a first-choice player in recent games.
Creevy retired from Los Pumas in August after earning his final cap, bringing his total to 110. He played his last match against Australia in his hometown of La Plata at the age of 39. While Creevy chose to join Benetton, he also received offers to play in England and France.
Throughout his career, Creevy participated in Rugby World Cups in 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2023, reaching the semi-finals in two of those tournaments. His longevity in the sport has set a new record for the most matches played by an Argentine in Rugby World Cups. Notably, he captained Los Pumas to their first victory over the Springboks, winning 37-25 in Durban.
Under Creevy’s leadership, Argentina achieved significant milestones, including their first Rugby Championship win—a 21-17 victory over Australia in Mendoza in 2014—followed by an 18-13 win over France in Paris.
