Perth will host the U14 Basketball Club Championships in 2025 for the first time, welcoming over 700 participants from across Australia. The event will take place over six days, from September 27 to October 3, 2025, at Willetton Stadium.
This tournament will feature 48 of the top boys’ and girls’ junior teams in Australia. Alongside the players, nearly 100 officials and hundreds of family members and supporters are expected to attend. The championships are anticipated to provide a significant boost to Western Australia’s economy, particularly benefiting local tourism and hospitality businesses.
The Cook Government emphasizes the importance of mass participation events in its tourism strategy, as these events attract thousands of competitors and generate substantial visitor spending in the state.
Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti expressed excitement about the upcoming championships. “Following the success of last week’s HoopsFest, we are thrilled to announce that the U14 Club Championships will take place in WA for the first time next September,” she said. “Events like this create vibrancy in the community, provide jobs for West Australians, and allow visitors to experience what our state has to offer while building a lasting social legacy.”
Sport and Recreation Minister David Templeman highlighted the benefits of hosting such events for young athletes. “The WA Government is proud to support youth sports and help develop the next generation of athletes. Hosting this significant event is a win for our state’s basketball enthusiasts,” he stated. “Perth boasts top-tier sporting venues, and it’s rewarding to see our investment in infrastructure attract large-scale competitions like the U14 Club Championships.”
Riverton MLA Dr. Jags Krishnan also expressed enthusiasm for the event. “We look forward to welcoming competitors and spectators to Willetton Stadium next year. This championship will bring valuable visitor spending and support local businesses. Junior sporting events like this create a great atmosphere, making it a fantastic week for our community.”
