The University of Idaho volleyball team opened the Siena Saints Invitational with a 3-1 win over Siena College, earning their first victory of the season. Idaho’s record now stands at 1-6.
Taylor Brickey led Idaho with a career-high 17 kills, while Madu Fontes added 13 kills and achieved her first double-double of her Division I career with 11 digs.
Siena took the first set 25-13. Despite Idaho’s 11 kills, they struggled with six attack errors, which allowed Siena to win the opening set.
Idaho equalized with a 25-20 victory in the second set. Brickey was instrumental, recording six kills and helping to overpower the Siena defense.
In the third set, Idaho controlled the game, winning 25-17. Fontes contributed four kills, and Zuzanna Wieczorek added three, helping the Vandals take a 2-1 lead.
The fourth set was closely contested, but Idaho emerged victorious 25-23. Siena initially led 13-2, but Idaho mounted a comeback with a 17-8 run, narrowing the gap to 19-22. After Siena scored once more, Idaho closed the match with six straight points.
Idaho aims to build on this win with two matches on Saturday, facing NJIT at 8 am PT and Syracuse at 1 pm PT to conclude the tournament.
