The Craigieburn community and local sports clubs are celebrating the completion of the upgraded Craigieburn Sports Stadium, thanks to a $5 million investment from the Allan Labor Government.
Minister for Community Sport, Ros Spence, attended the official opening of the enhanced stadium with Hume City Council. This upgrade was funded through the Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program.
The renovation adds three new multisport courts for netball, basketball, and badminton, bringing the total number of courts to eight. The project also includes new change facilities to accommodate increased demand, meeting rooms, a remodeled entry and reception area, a new café, and an additional 80 car parking spaces.
These improvements will benefit over 1,600 members of the Craigieburn Eagles Basketball Association, Craigieburn Netball Association, and Craigieburn Ladies Badminton Club, providing them with a significant home court advantage.
The Victorian Budget for 2024/25 has allocated more than $23 million towards community sports infrastructure and initiatives aimed at enhancing local sports participation and inclusion.
Since 2014, the Labor Government has invested over $2.3 billion in community sport and active recreation infrastructure. These investments, which include playground redevelopments and new sporting precincts, aim to provide high-quality, accessible facilities for Victorians. They also focus on creating jobs, stimulating local economies, and improving health, wellbeing, and social outcomes.
Minister Spence praised the Hume City Council for its $12.3 million contribution to the project.
