The Academy of Badminton Malaysia (ABM) is expected to reorganize its coaching staff soon.
Rexy Mainaky, the coaching director at ABM, revealed that the top management will meet on September 24 to deliberate on these changes.
“So far, the discussion to add or reshuffle coaches is scheduled for September 24 and will involve the necessary departments. We have some candidates in mind, but details will be finalized in the meeting,” Mainaky said to reporters today.
In May, the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) announced an opening for a new men’s singles coach for the national senior team.
Mainaky also noted that the upcoming meeting will address the need to reduce the number of players in both the national senior and junior teams.
He pointed out that the current number of players exceeds the ideal requirement, which is approximately 50 for each squad.
“There are currently 70 junior players and more than 50 senior players. We will discuss with all the coaches to determine the optimal number of players for each team,” he said. — Bernama
