The BDMNTN-XL will showcase some of the best in badminton. Two-time Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen is eager to join the event. “I am thrilled to be part of BXL,” said Axelsen. “It’s my first time participating in such an innovative, team-based event in Indonesia. I’m excited to play with top players from around the globe and put on a great show.”
Hendra Setiawan, a member of the celebrated Indonesian men’s doubles team ‘The Daddies,’ will also compete. “I’m excited to be part of BDMTN-XL. Innovative Competition Format
BDMNTN-XL will introduce a novel competition format. Four teams—Blitzers, Hurricanes, Lightning, and Rockets—will each have seven players (four men and three women). The matches will feature four 10-minute sets, or ‘quarters,’ with a sudden-death tiebreaker if the score is tied at 2-2.
Teams will be led by non-player captains who will strategize player selection and match tactics. Players will be drafted using a snake system, and there will be new 3v3 matches, allowing unlimited substitutions between sets to enhance strategic play.
Exciting Matches and Top Competitors
With nearly USD 1 million in prize money, the competition promises to be fierce. Indonesian stars Jonathan Christie, the All England 2024 Champion, and Greysia Polii, the 2020 Olympic gold medalist, will compete on home soil. The tournament will also feature world number one Viktor Axelsen and Thailand’s World Champion Ratchanok Intanon. Fans will see new double pairings as part of the draft system.
