The Lynchburg women’s volleyball team rebounded with a solid 3-1 victory over Southern Virginia on the road.
The Hornets took control early, establishing a 17-10 lead in the first set. They maintained their momentum and closed out the set with a 25-21 win.
In the second set, Southern Virginia became more aggressive, thanks to strong performances from senior outside hitters Sydney Bassett and Brenna Clyde. The Knights capitalized on three attacking errors and three service errors by Lynchburg to gain momentum. They won the set 25-17 after a 7-3 run.
With the match tied at one set each, both teams fought for the lead. Lynchburg’s serving proved crucial in the third set, with the Hornets scoring four points from aces. An 8-1 run midway through the set was decisive, helping Lynchburg secure a 25-16 win, the largest margin of the match.
In the fourth set, Southern Virginia’s Bassett and Clyde continued to pose a challenge. Lynchburg struggled with errors and fell behind 17-12. However, the Hornets rallied with a 7-0 run, regaining the lead and ultimately winning the set 25-21.
Lynchburg improves to 4-1 on the season and will face Mary Washington and Gettysburg on the road this Saturday, September 7, in Fredericksburg, Va.
