The No. 12 Creighton Volleyball team achieved a school record with its 16th consecutive home win, defeating Drake 3-0 on Sunday to claim the Bluejay Invitational title for the sixth time.
Creighton improved to 3-0 for the season with set scores of 25-16, 25-18, and 25-11, while Drake dropped to 0-3. The Bluejays now boast the longest active home set winning streak in the nation, with 41 straight home sets won.
Setter Kendra Wait led the offense with 26 assists, nine digs, four kills, and three blocks. Senior Norah Sis added nine kills, while senior Elise Goetzinger and junior Ava Martin each contributed seven kills. Senior Maddy Bilinovic led defensively with 15 digs. As a team, Creighton recorded 40 kills, 56 digs, four aces, 10 blocks, and hit .231.
Drake had 21 kills, 44 digs, and four blocks but struggled offensively with a -.010 hitting percentage. Macy Daufeldt led Drake with nine kills, and Jada Wills had a match-high 19 digs.
Creighton never trailed in the first set, winning 25-16. After an early tie at 5-5, Creighton surged ahead with a 10-5 lead thanks to Sydney Breissinger’s serving. The Bluejays extended the lead to 17-9 before Drake made a brief comeback. A block by Wait and Goetzinger ended the set in Creighton’s favor. Seven Bluejays recorded a kill in the first set, with Creighton hitting .364.
In the second set, Creighton quickly established a lead at 7-4 and 12-6, eventually expanding it to 23-13. Despite a late rally by Drake, Creighton secured the set 25-18 after a Bulldogs service error.
Drake briefly led in the third set before Creighton surged ahead with a 5-0 run led by Bilinovic’s serving. Goetzinger’s two aces during a 10-0 run extended the lead to 21-8. Creighton finished the set with 23 digs and four blocks, limiting Drake to a -.095 hitting percentage.
Creighton will return to action next week at the Creighton Classic, hosting No. 21 USC on Thursday, Sept. 5, at 6 p.m., with the match broadcast on FS1. The Bluejays will also face Kansas State on Saturday at 2 p.m.
