Malaysia will have a strong presence in the quarter-finals of the Korea Open, with national mixed doubles pairs Chen Tang Jie-Toh Wei and Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah advancing to the next stage. They will be joined by Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai, who also made it through the second round.
On Friday, Chen-Toh and Goh-Lai will face each other in the quarter-finals, ensuring Malaysia will have a representative in the semi-finals. Both pairs are entering the match with confidence after winning their second-round matches against opponents from Chinese Taipei.
Goh-Lai, in particular, will be optimistic, having defeated Chen-Toh twice earlier this year at the Swiss Open final and the Malaysia Masters semi-finals.
Tan-Thinaah secured their spot by overcoming Chinese Taipei’s Nicole Gonzales-Lin Chih-chun with scores of 21-23, 21-12, 21-12. They will play against a pair from either Chinese Taipei or China in their quarter-final match.
National pair Choong Hon Jian-Haikal Nazri put up a strong fight against the Korean duo Choi Sol-gyu-Heo Kwang-hee but ultimately lost with scores of 18-21, 21-12, 17-21.
Other Malaysian pairs such as Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing, Goh V Shem-Boon Xin Yuan, and Wong Tien Ci-Lim Chiew Sien were eliminated from the tournament.
