As the match stood at 6-7, 6-2, 7-5, 5-7, 0-1 in Kecmanovic’s favor, Nishioka’s physical distress was evident when he began to writhe in pain. Kecmanovic showed commendable sportsmanship by staying with Nishioka and offering support during the medical response.

Medical staff quickly arrived on the scene, finding Nishioka in severe pain. He was eventually wheeled off the court, leading to his withdrawal and Kecmanovic being declared the winner. Despite the outcome, Kecmanovic focused on his opponent’s well-being, even providing water while Nishioka was treated.

Nishioka later took to social media to thank his supporters and explain his condition. On X, he wrote: “Thank you for all your support. I apologize for worrying you. I started feeling cramps around the 33rd point of the fourth set and was already cramping when I served at 5-4.”

He continued, “In the final set, my waist began to spasm more than my legs, making it difficult to stand. My legs then started spasming, followed by my shoulders, hips, sides, and thighs.”

Nishioka also expressed dissatisfaction with the tournament officials, who he claimed ignored his request for a stretcher and chose to transport him in a wheelchair during what he described as “convulsions.”
