Chelsea Intensifies Pursuit of Napoli’s Victor Osimhen Amid Saudi Bid

Chelsea is ramping up its efforts to secure Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, according to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The Premier League club is reportedly facing competition from other potential buyers, including a Saudi Pro League team.

Osimhen, a 25-year-old Nigerian international, remains under contract with the Serie A club, which is firm on its €130 million release clause. This high price tag has deterred potential suitors like Chelsea and Arsenal from moving forward with contract discussions, despite Osimhen already agreeing to personal terms with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). The significant transfer fee remains a sticking point.

Romano has also revealed that a formal bid from Saudi Arabia’s Al Ahli has been submitted to Napoli. However, the offer, reportedly worth over €65 million, is not expected to meet Napoli’s demands. Romano shared on X: “Al Ahli have submitted an initial bid to Napoli for Victor Osimhen for a package in excess of €65m. Napoli are prepared to let him go but NO agreement between the Nigerian striker and Al Ahli so far. The deal is still far from being completed on the player’s side, and Osimhen will consider his options, with no interest in a loan move.”

Chelsea Edges Closer to Osimhen Agreement

Meanwhile, Ben Jacobs reports that Chelsea is making progress in negotiations with Napoli for Osimhen. The striker remains a priority for Chelsea as the transfer window draws to a close.

“Chelsea’s priority in the final days of the window is a striker, with Victor Osimhen not yet ruled out,” Jacobs reported on X. “Chelsea and Napoli have made some progress on a proposed structure in the last few days. However, Chelsea won’t proceed unless the terms become more favorable.”

Chelsea is reportedly willing to make Osimhen one of their top earners, but any deal must fit within the club’s wage structure. This includes a lower base salary in seasons without Champions League football. Additionally, Chelsea is expected to offload several players before the transfer window closes on August 30, with Raheem Sterling among those who may be presented with offers.

Despite the ongoing negotiations, Osimhen was notably absent from Napoli’s recent 3-0 victory over Bologna in Serie A, and he is not currently training with Antonio Conte’s squad.
