Dubai Basketball, the emirate’s inaugural professional basketball team, has embarked on a pivotal training camp in Slovenia as they gear up for their landmark season.
The team is set to make history by becoming the first Dubai-based franchise to compete in a European league. They will join the ABA League, which includes teams from the Balkans region of Europe.
The squad arrived in Koper, Slovenia on August 19 for their first-ever training camp under the guidance of head coach Jurica Golemac and his staff. The camp will run until September 2.
August 20 marked a significant milestone for the club, as it was the first time the full first-team squad, along with two players from the academy, trained and played together ahead of the upcoming season.
During their time in Slovenia, Dubai Basketball will play four friendly matches against KK Dinamo, Buducnost, KK Split, and KRKA.
“This camp is a fantastic opportunity for us to build team cohesion and prepare for the season,” Golemac said. “Although the players have only been together for a week, I am already seeing promising signs of teamwork. This camp will be challenging with intense training and tough matches, but the experience will be invaluable.”
After the Slovenia camp, the team will return to Dubai for a week before playing a pre-season friendly at Coca-Cola Arena on September 10. They will then travel to Sarajevo from September 14-16 for the Mirza Delibašić tournament, where they will face Cluj from Romania and either Dinamo Sassari from Italy or KK Bosna from Sarajevo.
Dubai Basketball’s ABA League season begins on September 22 against reigning champions Red Star at Coca-Cola Arena.
