PLYMOUTH – Colin Ducie, a standout pitcher for Plymouth South High School, has secured his future in baseball. Last week, Ducie revealed that he will join the UMass-Lowell Riverhawks for his college career.
Ducie, who plans to major in business and finance, shared how his summer played a pivotal role in his decision. “Everything fell into place over the summer,” he said. Ducie played in a tournament with his AAU team, the New England Premier, at UMass-Lowell. Following the tournament, he visited the campus, met with coaches, and received an offer to join the baseball program. Ducie is excited about his commitment and feels it will drive him to excel in his senior season. “I have a higher standard to meet now,” he added.
Ducie, a versatile player who has excelled in various infield positions, will join UMass-Lowell as a pitcher. Last spring, he pitched 43⅓ innings for Plymouth South, posting a 2.26 ERA. He struck out 66 batters and walked 13. Opponents hit just .233 against him. Ducie also participated in the MBCA Junior Select All-Star Game and will serve as a captain for his senior year.
Plymouth South head coach Walt Fust praised Ducie’s development. “Colin has made significant strides due to his work ethic and dedication. He has developed the velocity and command needed for Division 1 baseball. His potential is still growing, and he will be among the best players we’ve had,” Fust said.
Fust also highlighted Ducie’s defensive skills, noting his exceptional performance as a shortstop over the past two years. “Colin has been a key defensive player, refining his skills and becoming one of the best in our program.”
For Ducie, playing college baseball has been a long-standing goal. The opportunity to compete at the NCAA Division 1 level is a dream come true. “It’s exciting,” Ducie said. As a right-handed pitcher, Ducie’s pitching repertoire includes a fastball that reaches 83 to 85 mph, a curveball, and a change-up. “I believe my curveball is my strongest pitch,” he concluded.
