Sports data and technology firm Genius Sports Limited has been named the exclusive supplier of semi-automated officiating technology (SAOT) for the Premier League.
The partnership aims to enhance decision-making and improve the overall experience for fans, players, and officials.
Mark Locke, CEO of Genius Sports, said, “We are excited to be the Premier League’s supplier of semi-automated officiating technology. This is a significant milestone for us as we introduce our AI and data platform, GeniusIQ, to the world’s most-watched league.”
Genius Sports will use its GeniusIQ platform to power the SAOT, which will be implemented across all Premier League stadiums.
Tony Scholes, Premier League Chief Football Officer, commented, “The introduction of semi-automated offside technology is crucial for maintaining the pace of the game. We believe that this new, precise technology will significantly reduce the time taken for offside decisions and ensure consistent application of offside lines.
