Tara Davis-Woodhall of the USA has secured the gold medal in the women’s long jump final with an impressive fourth attempt of 7.10 meters. This strong performance placed her ahead of Germany’s defending champion Malaika Mihambo, who took silver with a best jump of 6.98 meters. Jasmine Moore, also from the USA, earned the bronze medal.
As the event neared its conclusion, four athletes remained in contention. Italy’s Larissa Iapichino was first to jump, needing 6.96 meters to move into the medal positions. However, her jump of 6.85 meters fell short, confirming the final medal standings.
Moore, who had already won a bronze medal in the triple jump, couldn’t improve her position and settled for bronze in the long jump as well.
Mihambo, the defending champion, needed a big jump to challenge Davis-Woodhall but ran through the pit, leaving her with silver.
Davis-Woodhall’s final jump did not improve her distance, but the gold was already hers. She celebrated by turning to face the crowd and then falling backwards into the pit. In the stands, her husband, U.S. Paralympian Hunter Woodhall, joined in the celebration.
