For the first time in two decades, five American women are ranked within the top 15 of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings, the USTA announced on Monday.
World number two Coco Gauff leads the American contingent, followed by Jessica Pegula at number six. Danielle Collins, in a remarkable farewell season, has climbed to ninth. Madison Keys holds the 14th spot, while Emma Navarro reached a career-high ranking of 15th after her impressive run to the quarter-finals at Wimbledon.
This milestone marks the first time since May 24, 2004, that five American women have been in the WTA’s top 15. The last occurrence featured Lindsay Davenport ranked fourth in the world.
