Chris Sale’s anticipated start for the Atlanta Braves on Monday night was postponed as the team opted to reschedule him to face the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday instead.
In place of Sale, the Braves called up right-hander Bryce Elder to take the mound for Monday’s game against Arizona. Elder, an All-Star last season, has primarily played in Triple-A for a significant part of this year.
Sale, 35 years old and in his first season with the Braves, recently earned a spot on the NL All-Star team following a strong comeback from several injury-plagued seasons. The left-hander boasts an impressive record of 11-3 with a 2.71 ERA this season.
The change means Sale, an eight-time All-Star, will now pitch against Arizona’s Zac Gallen on Tuesday. The Braves did not specify the reason for altering Sale’s start date.
Additionally, Atlanta bolstered its roster by calling up veteran outfielder Eddie Rosario, who recently joined the team after being released by the Washington Nationals. To accommodate Elder and Rosario on the roster, the Braves sent left-hander Dylan Lee and utilityman Luke Williams to Triple-A Gwinnett.
