Ian Happ hit a pair of three-run homers, one from each side of the plate, leading the Chicago Cubs to a 10-2 victory over the visiting Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday. Happ, who went 4-for-4 with a career-high six RBIs, homered off Phillies left-hander Cristopher Sanchez in the fourth inning and right-hander Seranthony Dominguez in the fifth. This marked the second time Happ homered from both sides of the plate in a game, the first being on May 7, 2018, against the Marlins.
Cubs right-hander Jameson Taillon (5-4) earned the win, allowing two runs on four hits over seven innings, with seven strikeouts and no walks. The Cubs snapped a three-game losing streak, though they have lost seven of their last 11 games. The Phillies, who have won eight of their last 12, initially led 2-0 after Nick Castellanos hit his 12th home run in the fourth inning. Sanchez (6-4) saw his streak of 19 scoreless innings end as he gave up seven runs on seven hits and three walks over four-plus innings.

Jose Miranda and Ryan Jeffers combined for eight hits and seven RBIs, propelling the Minnesota Twins to a 12-3 win over the Detroit Tigers in Minneapolis. The game was called in the bottom of the seventh inning due to inclement weather. Miranda went 5-for-5, scoring four runs and driving in three, while Jeffers had three hits, including a homer, and four RBIs. Twins starter Bailey Ober (8-4) allowed three runs (one earned) on seven hits over six innings, striking out eight. Detroit’s Kenta Maeda (2-5) was rocked for nine runs on nine hits in 3 2/3 innings.

Julio Rodriguez broke out of a 3-for-37 slump with a home run and a double, leading the Seattle Mariners to a 7-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. J.P. Crawford hit a three-run double in the seventh inning to break a tie, followed by Mitch Garver’s two-run homer. The Mariners, leaders of the AL West, snapped a four-game losing streak. Despite homers from Gunnar Henderson and Jordan Westburg, the AL East-leading Orioles couldn’t maintain their early 2-0 lead.

Jake Irvin allowed just one hit and one walk over eight scoreless innings, and Jesse Winker hit a pinch-hit home run in the eighth inning, as the Washington Nationals edged the New York Mets 1-0. Nationals reliever Derek Law secured his first save, retiring the side with two strikeouts in the ninth inning. Irvin (7-6) struck out eight batters, retiring the last 17 he faced. Mets starter Jose Quintana threw seven scoreless innings, but reliever Adrian Houser (1-5) gave up Winker’s decisive homer.
Cardinals 3, Pirates 2 (10 innings)
Pedro Pages hit a go-ahead RBI double in the top of the 10th inning, leading the St. Louis Cardinals to a 3-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Pages’ double against reliever Dennis Santana (2-1) drove in the automatic runner, Michael Siani. Alec Burleson added a key insurance run with a single to left. The Pirates managed one run in their half of the 10th, but couldn’t complete the comeback as John King (3-1) finished two innings of relief for the win.

Nick Martini, Jonathan India, and Spencer Steer homered in the first five innings as the Cincinnati Reds completed a three-game sweep of the New York Yankees, becoming the first National League team to do so on the road this season. Jake Fraley added a bases-clearing triple in the seventh inning, leading the Reds to their 13th win in 17 games. Former Yankees pitcher Frankie Montas (4-6) allowed two runs on four hits over five-plus innings. Yankees rookie Ben Rice hit his first career homer.
Astros 5, Blue Jays 3
Jeremy Pena hit a solo home run, and Jon Singleton added a two-run single as the Houston Astros defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 5-3, taking three of four in the series. Astros left-hander Framber Valdez (7-5) allowed three runs on nine hits and two walks over six innings, helped by four double plays. Blue Jays right-hander Chris Bassitt (7-7) gave up four runs on eight hits and four walks over five innings.

JP Sears threw five scoreless innings and Brent Rooker contributed an RBI single in a three-run third inning as the Oakland A’s completed a three-game sweep of the Los Angeles Angels. Sears (5-7) allowed just two hits and a walk, striking out six. Angels starter Roansy Contreras (1-1) gave up three runs (two earned) on three hits in 2 2/3 innings.

Steven Kwan had three hits, including a solo homer, while brothers Josh and Bo Naylor each posted two hits with two RBIs, leading the Cleveland Guardians to an 8-4 victory over the Chicago White Sox. Guardians starter Ben Lively (8-4) allowed a solo homer to Paul DeJong and an RBI single to Lenyn Sosa but struck out six over six innings. Sosa extended his hitting streak to five games with at least two hits.

Tyler O’Neill went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, helping the Boston Red Sox recover for a 6-5 win over the Miami Marlins in 12 innings, completing a series sweep. O’Neill’s double in the 12th drove in a crucial insurance run after a groundout had put Boston ahead 5-4. Red Sox reliever Zack Kelly (3-1) earned the win, while Marlins reliever Matt Andriese (0-1) took the loss. Miami’s Jesus Sanchez went 3-for-5 with a double, triple, and two-run homer.

Michael King threw 5 1/3 quality innings, leading the San Diego Padres past the Texas Rangers 3-1 in Arlington. King (7-5) allowed one run on four hits, striking out five and walking two. Donovan Solano went 3-for-4 with an RBI, and former Rangers player Jurickson Profar added a home run for the Padres, who have won 11 of their last 14 games. Josh Smith and Corey Seager each had two hits for the Rangers, who have dropped eight of their last 10 games.
