Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry publicly bid farewell to his longtime teammate and “Splash Brothers” partner, Klay Thompson, who is set to join the Dallas Mavericks in a reported sign-and-trade deal. Curry took to Instagram, sharing a series of photos celebrating their shared journey and accomplishments.
“Gonna miss you @klaythompson,” Curry wrote. “Even though we won’t continue this journey together, what we achieved will remain unmatched. Couldn’t have asked for a better run with you and (Draymond Green). You’ve changed the entire Bay Area and revolutionized the game. Killa Klay, thank you for everything bro. Enjoy the game and keep doing what you do. Splash Bros 4 life my guy.”
Thompson, known for his elite shooting prowess, will leave behind a legacy with the Warriors, where he won four NBA championships alongside Curry and Green. The Warriors honored Thompson on Monday night, announcing the retirement of his No. 11 jersey.
While details of the trade involving Thompson have not been officially disclosed, ESPN reported that he will sign a three-year, $50 million contract with the Mavericks, joining All-Star talents Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. In his career with the Warriors, Thompson maintained a career 41.3 percent accuracy from beyond the arc and averaged 19.6 points per game over 793 games.
Last season, Thompson averaged 17.6 points per game, marking his first season below a 20-point average since 2013-14, alongside a 38.7 percent success rate from 3-point range. Despite coming off the bench for part of the season, he showcased his scoring prowess with 19.8 points per game in 14 reserve appearances, shooting 43 percent from long range.
As Thompson embarks on a new chapter with the Mavericks, Curry and the Warriors reflect on his impactful career and contributions to their storied franchise.
