MLB Overview: Astros Edge Mets in 11-Inning Thriller

Bivens (2-1), making his first major league start, held a shutout until Chris Taylor’s solo home run in the fifth. Dodgers starter James Paxton (7-2) was pulled after four innings, having allowed nine runs on 12 hits. The Giants notched 11 extra-base hits, including a franchise-record 10 doubles.

Pirates 4, Braves 2

Oneil Cruz and Rowdy Tellez each hit two-run homers in the fifth inning, leading the Pittsburgh Pirates past the Atlanta Braves to avoid a series sweep.

Bryan Reynolds ended his 25-game hitting streak, the longest in the majors this season, going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. Pirates starter Bailey Falter (4-6) broke a four-start losing streak, allowing one run on two hits over five innings, with four walks and five strikeouts.

Bradley (3-4) struck out 11 and allowed three hits over 5 2/3 innings. In his last five starts, Bradley is 2-1 with a 1.24 ERA, 40 strikeouts, and 18 hits allowed.

Nationals left-hander Patrick Corbin (1-8) gave up four runs on eight hits over six innings, with five strikeouts and one walk.

Red Sox 4, Padres 1

Rafael Devers hit a two-run home run, helping the Boston Red Sox avoid a sweep by defeating the San Diego Padres.

Devers’ 18th homer of the season came in the first inning off Matt Waldron (5-7). Josh Winckowski (2-1) earned the win with five scoreless innings in his second appearance since being recalled from Triple-A.

Phillies 7, Marlins 6

Trea Turner’s two-run single in the seventh inning lifted the Philadelphia Phillies to a win over the Miami Marlins, splitting the four-game series.

Philadelphia rallied from a 6-2 deficit, with Turner’s single off Anthony Bender capping their biggest comeback of the season. Seranthony Dominguez (3-2) got the win in relief, while Andrew Nardi (1-1) took the loss.

Rockies 5, White Sox 4 (14 innings)

Michael Toglia’s sacrifice fly in the 14th inning led the Colorado Rockies to a win over the Chicago White Sox, snapping a five-game losing streak.

Jalen Beeks (5-4) pitched a perfect bottom of the 14th to secure the victory. Michael Soroka (0-8) threw the final four innings for Chicago.

Cardinals 2, Reds 0

Lance Lynn and three relievers combined on a two-hitter as the St. Louis Cardinals blanked the Cincinnati Reds.

Lynn (4-3) allowed both hits and struck out six over six innings. Ryan Helsley converted his 30th consecutive save. Masyn Winn had an RBI double for the Cardinals. Cincinnati’s Jonathan India extended his hitting streak to 12 games.

Royals 6, Guardians 2

Seth Lugo pitched six shutout innings for his league-leading 11th win as the Kansas City Royals took three of four from the Cleveland Guardians.

Lugo (11-2) struck out 10 while allowing four hits and one walk. Logan Allen (8-4) allowed three runs on six hits for Cleveland.

Brewers 7, Cubs 1

Brice Turang hit a grand slam, and Freddy Peralta delivered a dominant start as the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Chicago Cubs to win their three-game series.

Peralta (6-4) allowed a leadoff homer and a single before holding the Cubs hitless over the next six innings, striking out eight and walking two in 103 pitches. Chicago’s Kyle Hendricks (1-6) allowed seven runs in 3 2/3 innings.

Tigers 7, Angels 6

Justyn-Henry Malloy’s inside-the-park home run highlighted a rare offensive outburst as the Detroit Tigers edged the Los Angeles Angels.

Tigers catcher Carson Kelly hit a three-run homer to support starter Casey Mize (2-6), who pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings before exiting with a hamstring injury.

Despite trailing 7-1 in the ninth, the Angels rallied with a three-run homer from Zach Neto and a two-run shot from Jo Adell but fell short. Tyler Holton struck out Nolan Schanuel to end the game.

Diamondbacks 5, Athletics 1

Christian Walker had three hits and two RBIs, leading the Arizona Diamondbacks past the Oakland Athletics.

Brandon Pfaadt pitched six innings, allowing one run and five hits, with eight strikeouts. Zack Gelof hit his ninth home run for the A’s, who have lost seven of their last eight.

Twins 5, Mariners 3

Trevor Larnach’s tiebreaking, two-run homer in the eighth inning lifted the Minnesota Twins over the Seattle Mariners.

Larnach’s blast off reliever Ryne Stanek (5-2) followed Jose Miranda’s single, extending the Twins’ home run streak to a franchise-record 19 games. Mariners starter Luis Castillo allowed three runs on six hits over five innings.
