José Ramírez continues to climb the Cleveland Guardians’ career home run rankings, tying Manny Ramirez for third place in franchise history with his 236th home run. Ramírez’s milestone moment came during the sixth inning of Monday night’s game, where his solo shot secured a 3-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles.
This latest homer places Ramírez just behind Albert Belle, who hit 242 home runs for the Guardians. The franchise’s all-time leader, Jim Thome, sits further ahead with 337 home runs.
Reflecting on the achievement, Ramírez mostly spoke through a translator but confidently asserted in English, “I got it,” when asked about the possibility of surpassing Belle.
Despite reaching this significant milestone, Ramírez emphasized that his primary focus remains on team success. “It’s another milestone, but the key is to win games and that’s what I’m focused on,” he stated through his translator.
Manny Ramirez, who played for Cleveland from 1993 to 2000, now shares third place on the home run list with José Ramírez, who is in his 12th season with the Guardians. Ramírez’s current contract extends through 2028, suggesting more milestones could be on the horizon.
Monday’s 431-foot homer was Ramírez’s 20th of the season. Manager Stephen Vogt highlighted Ramírez’s strategic hitting, noting, “I think that was just gathering information from his first couple at-bats. Third time around is real, especially when you’re dealing with a hitter like José. He got a fastball, he ambushed it.”
Ramírez’s contributions continue to be pivotal for the Guardians, both in personal achievements and in leading the team to victories.
