The qualification phase for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games has concluded, with the 12 men’s national volleyball teams set to compete officially announced by the FIVB and Volleyball World. Here’s a rundown of the qualified teams:
Argentina
Argentina secured their spot by maintaining a top-four position in the FIVB World Ranking by the end of the Volleyball Nations League 2024 Preliminary Phase. They will make their ninth Olympic appearance, having previously won bronze medals in Seoul 1988 and Tokyo 2020.
Brazil
Finishing second in Pool A of the FIVB Road to Paris Volleyball Qualifier, Brazil will make their 16th consecutive Olympic appearance. They are among the most successful teams in Olympic volleyball, with three gold medals to their credit (Barcelona 1992, Athens 2004, and Rio 2016).
Canada
Canada clinched their spot by ranking second in Pool C of the FIVB Road to Paris Volleyball Qualifier. This will be their third consecutive Olympic appearance, with their best performance being a fourth-place finish in Los Angeles 1984.
Egypt
As the highest-ranked African team in the FIVB World Ranking, Egypt secured their sixth Olympic participation. They earned their first-ever Olympic victory in Rio 2016.
France
Hosts France automatically qualified and will aim to defend their Olympic title, won in Tokyo 2020. This will mark their sixth appearance in Olympic volleyball.
Germany
Germany topped Pool A of the FIVB Road to Paris Volleyball Qualifier to secure their fifth Olympic participation and their first since London 2012. They won a silver medal in Munich 1972.
Italy
Reigning world champions Italy secured their place among the top four teams in the FIVB World Ranking. They will make their 13th consecutive Olympic appearance, with three silver and three bronze medals in their Olympic history.
Japan
Japan qualified by finishing second in Pool B of the FIVB Road to Paris Volleyball Qualifier. They will compete in their tenth Olympics, with their best performances being gold in Munich 1972 and silver in Mexico City 1968.
Poland
Leading the FIVB World Ranking, Poland finished first in Pool C of the FIVB Road to Paris Volleyball Qualifier. They will participate in their 11th Olympic Games, with their sole gold medal coming in Montréal 1976.
Serbia
Serbia secured their spot as one of the top four teams in the FIVB World Ranking. They have appeared in five Olympics, winning gold in Sydney 2000 and silver in Atlanta 1996.
Slovenia
Making their Olympic debut, Slovenia secured their place among the top teams in the FIVB World Ranking not yet qualified.
USA
The United States finished first in Pool B of the FIVB Road to Paris Volleyball Qualifier, marking their 16th consecutive Olympic appearance. They have three gold medals in their Olympic history.
The Olympic volleyball tournament at Paris 2024 will be held from July 27 to August 11 at the South Paris Arena. The Drawing of Lots ceremony will take place on June 26 in Łódź, Poland, determining the groups for the competition.
