Whitesboro Athletics had a pivotal Sunday in Syracuse, as both their baseball and softball teams vied for victory in their respective Section III Class AA tournaments.
In the baseball final held at Lazer Field on the campus of Onondaga Community College, the Warriors faced off against top-seeded West Genesee. Despite a strong start with Jordan Hughes’ early run in the second inning, Whitesboro couldn’t maintain the lead, ultimately falling 2-1 to the Wildcats. West Genesee’s late-game push secured them the Class AA crown, leaving the Warriors to regroup for future challenges.
On the softball front, Whitesboro encountered Fayetteville-Manlius in the Class AA Semifinal. After conceding two early runs to the Hornets, the Warriors mounted a resilient comeback in the second inning, fueled by hits from Amira Sheehan and Casey Clausen. Their determined effort paid off with a convincing 10-4 victory, propelling them into the Class AA title game against West Genesee, scheduled for Wednesday at Carrier Park.
While the baseball team faced disappointment in their championship bid, the softball squad’s triumph offers hope and anticipation as they prepare for their shot at the title against a formidable opponent. Whitesboro Athletics continue to showcase resilience and determination, representing their school with pride on the athletic stage.
